A popular field of medicine,
dentistry is no longer confined to diagnosing and
treating dental diseases. This genre of medicine, over the
years, has expanded and offers students a number of specialisations to
choose from. Apart from treating dental issues, professionals in this
field work on facial aesthetics as well. The DY Patil
University-School of Dentistry, Navi Mumbai, offers a Bachelor of Dental
Sciences (BDS) and a Master of Dental Sciences (MDS) to students who
wish to make a career in this field.
Students who pursue an MDS can specialise in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, oral pathology and microbiology, oral medicine and radiology (OMR), oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontics, conservative dentistry, prosthodontics, paediatric and preventive dentistry as well as cosmetic dentistry and implantology. The school also offers PhD programmes in various specialisations as well as international student exchange programmes for its students.
These courses also include guest lectures by doctors from specialised fields of dental studies. Apart from the course curriculum, students actively participate in scientific conventions and state level as well as national level conferences and are involved in extracurricular activities like sports, arts, etc. The teaching faculty, on the other hand, is involved in research.
The school is equipped with modern-day infrastructure and equipments like CBCT (radiology department), lasers, dental implant centre, etc. Furthermore, the institute also has a medical simulation laboratory and a virtual classroom for conducting live webinars.
