Exam season is when stress
lev els increase for both parents and students. But many parents are
ensuring holistic living for their wards instead of focusing on just
their grades. Scientist Shilpa Vora is taking her daughter, Ishita, a
Class VIII student, to Delhi with her final exams set to begin soon.
“She is performing Kathak at a cultural fest there. I'm not stressed
because I feel they are a test of what they have understood,“ she says.
HR professional Ruchi Sharma, whose son Siddhant is a Class IX student,
says, “He studies on his own and is one of the top three ranking
students in his class. I neither have to monitor his activities nor make
any changes to my life because of his exams.“
There are others, though, who are feeling the pressure. Jewellery designer Kinnari Sharma, whose son Soven is in Class X, says, “I've taken permission from my employers and bring him to work with me daily so I can keep an eye on him and make sure that he is not wasting time.“
Psychosocial consultant Dr Shreedevi adds, “Parents should exert mild pressure on their children, but should not worry overtly as that stress will trickle down to the kids. They should, instead, inculcate a planned system of studying and time management over a course of time.“
