How do college fests affect studies?
Pros: College fests encourage participants to use their creative
prowess to the fullest. They promote healthy rivalry between students of
all the colleges and are a great medium for inter-collegiate
interaction as well as exchange of ideas and talent. College authorities
allow the students to host such events and also instil on them the
responsibility of handling funds, organising the music, celebrity
appearances, etc. It is a good initiative to make the Gen-X have a
responsible attitude. These fests also help build up the personality of
the students and give them a medium to display their talents. They learn
how to face an audience and perform. Also such events promote team work
and team building. Winners of the various competitions know how success
tastes. It inspires them and others to work hard.
Cons: On the flip
side, these fests are time consuming. They require a lot of effort and
running around. Students have to miss out on a lot of lectures and
sometimes stay on after college hours. They don’t get time to study or
complete notes and assignments. After the fests are over, along with the
levels of excitement, the energy of the students also drains out. This
makes it more stressful for them as they have to catch up with what they
missed and concentrate on what is being taught at the moment.
Conclusion:
While studies are important for academic build up, fests are important
for personality build up. So in a way, they complement each other.
