No re-exam for comp engineering students
There is no relief for final year computer engineering students of Mumbai university.

University’s exam house on Friday said that the DSIP (Digital Signal and Image Processing) paper had no question out of syllabus. University has taken this decision after the computer engineering paper setting committee presented its report.

Dr Subhash Deo, director of examinations, said, “Following students’ complaints, we did a review of the paper. But the questions were adhering to the syllabus.” About erroneous questions, Deo added, “Those were, in fact, the kind of questions where students had to assume suitable data (which is regular practice in engineering exams). Instead, they called it erroneous or not supported with appropriate data.”

While the university has decided that there will be no re-exam as the paper had no issues, it has decided to conduct assessments in the best interests of the students. “That does not mean checking will be lenient, but assumed data by the students to solve questions will be considered by the professors during assessments,” said an official.

Following complaints by students, the university had asked the computer engineering department chairman to take another look into the paper. On Thursday, a report was submitted to the exam house authorities.

The review committee members in the report have denied that there were any questions out of syllabus or that the pattern was difficult. Even the erroneous questions were corrected at the right time. Moreover, according to the authorities, this paper is application-based. Hence, students can’t complain about twisted questions.

Many final year students, after the paper on Monday, started an online movement on Facebook. Most of them have commented on the paper being erroneous and twisted, without adhering to the regular pattern or the syllabus.
