Focus on second semester exams and make up for the marks deficit
| ||
With the first semester examination results declared
in most colleges, a few motivational messages have begun to do the
rounds among students. 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going'
is the most popular, followed by 'Tough times don't last, tough people
do.'
Adversity can bring out the best in people and semester exam results fit the definition perfectly. The relative freedom of being in college, coupled with the absence of a formal structure of regular tests, inter-collegiate festivals and wide spectrum of extra-curricular activities can really result in studies being low down on the list of priorities. Getting extremely low marks or not being able to make the passing grade in a couple of subjects can be a rather rude awakening. While it is possible to cope with such a situation and focus on the second semester exams to make up for the deficit, there are a few dos and don'ts that need to be kept in mind. First and foremost, stop fooling yourself. If it wasn't easy to get passing marks during the first term, the second term exams aren't exactly going to be a cakewalk either. You have to increase the amount of time allotted for study. Simply saying 'Aal izz well' over and over again doesn't work in real life. Change your study circle. Two students who haven't passed the first term exams studying together for the finals is like two blind people leading each other across the street – a surefire recipe for disaster. Try to spend more time in the college library instead of the canteen. The ambiance rubs off and who knows, you may actually feel like studying! Pester your professors. They always declare 'Come to me if you have any difficulties' so take them up on their offer. Above all, stop following all those jokers who brag about how 'cool' it is to get single digit marks and repeat a year in the same class. Its fine if you are essaying Zayed Khan's 'Lucky' character in a remake of 'Main Hoon Na'. Otherwise, its just not happening dude! What is your take on the semester system? Do you feel its possible to bounce back after flunking an exam? |
